Art & Soul Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Art & Soul Blog!

"Art comes to you proposing frankly to give nothing but the highest quality to moments as they pass." author unknown

This has been one of my favorite quotes for years now because it represents what I want to accomplish as an artist. My name is Lana Eklund and I love capturing unique, beautiful moments in life. I've been a professional photographer for 5 years and spent many years before that learning my craft. It started as a passion for photojournalism in high school and evolved into a love for fine art photography in college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography.

I have a wonderful husband and two miniature pinschers named Hunter and Dora. I love walking barefoot in fresh green grass, laughing with my mouth wide open, listening to the birds on spring mornings, God, frozen yogurt smothered with gummy bears, spending time with my family, a clean house, friendship, sunsets, hugs, and surprises. I love life.

Thanks Daddy O!

Hurry! Fall Family Sessions filling up fast!

It’s that time of year again…a chill in the air, the golden shimmer of leaves changing, pumpkin carving and family portraits! This time of year is so nostalgic and it’s a wonderful excuse to capture new portraits for Christmas cards, a new gallery wrap on your living room wall or presents for your family and friends.

Here at Art & Soul Photography we’re gearing up for our 2nd Annual Fall Family Portrait Special. The session times are filling up fast and we don’t want you to miss out on the opportunity to experience high quality family portraiture at a special price. Sessions are only $50 and we are excited to offer you 4 exciting locations in 2 of my favorite cities: Columbia, Missouri and Kansas City.

October 22, 2011:

Peach Tree Farm located just 20 minutes west of downtown Columbia (right off of i-70) offers a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, hayrides, a straw maze, and a petting zoo with sheep, goats, donkeys, pigs, ducks, turkeys, chickens and bunnies. Admission is $5 per person and I would recommend coming out a little early or staying after your session to enjoy some of these fun activities with your whole family.

October 23, 2011:

Stephens Lake Park is located just minutes from downtown Columbia on East Broadway. It offers a beautiful lake, fields, a walking path, mature trees, and an island which all offer wonderful opportunities for family portraits. These is the only available session left this Sunday. It’s from 3:10-3:40om. Call today to book that time slot.

October 28, 2011:

Loose Park is located minutes from The Plaza in Kansas City, MO. It’s a beautiful park with an amazing circular rose garden, fountains, a lake with several bridges, open grassy lawns, and so much more. I definitely have a special connection to this park because it’s where my husband proposed to me. Let’s just say, I love being there!

October 29, 2011:

Antioch Park is located in Merriam, Kansas several miles from where I grew up. I remember going there as a child and I’m so happy that it’s still a really wonderful place to take kids and enjoy nature. It has a lake with several unique bridges, geese that are tame enough to ask for bread, an amazing playground, a little “town” with kid-sized buildings (still a winner), mature trees, catch and release fishing and so much more.

I’m hoping one of these wonderful locations will work for you and your family one of the next two weekends. Call and schedule your session today!

Also, check out a blog written by Jesse Bodine, one of my most fabulous customers for some really wonderful fall family outfit ideas here.

Columbia Missouri Wedding Photographer: Casey and Bryce’s Romantic Wedding

Each wedding that I photograph has it’s own personality and each wedding party creates a unique energy. Each couple displays their own love story for their wedding day guests and this was no different for Casey and Bryce’s June wedding. Their wedding day was uniquely their own and perfectly divine; from their DIY reception details, Casey’s stunning dress, yummy cake by [...] Continue Reading…

Columbia Missouri Wedding Photography: Jessica and Bryan

Green grass and bold yellow bouquets of flowers were beautiful accents to Jessica and Bryan’s amazing wedding day. It’s rare to find a perfect summer day but May 21st was that…a “just right” temperature for a simply beautiful outdoor wedding at the Martin Luther King Memorial Battle Garden in Columbia, Missouri. The reception was no less spectacular at Quinton’s in downtown Columbia. It was the perfect evening full of rooftop dancing, yummy appetizer eating, and drinks flowing at Quinton’s. Here’s some of our favorite images from the day. Ashley Irvin was my 2nd photographer for the day and we were able to capture some really wonderful images of Jessica and Bryan’s Columbia wedding.
